Food Spot: Shake Shack

I’ve been on my perfect veggie burger quest again! This week when out with friends we decided to celebrate the end of the term with a visit to Covent Garden’s Shake Shack, and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is like upmarket fast food, you choose from the menu and place your order then wait for it to arrive through a hatch before taking it to your table. The staff were lovely and unrushed, which makes a change from some central London chains, and the food was ready within 5 minutes. There are plenty of places to sit and eat, inside and out, and on a Tuesday afternoon you’re more than spoilt for choice.

I went for the shroom burger ( quite brave for someone who usually hates mushrooms in anything) and a portion of cheesy chips. Now, I am honestly not overreacting when I say that the cheesy chips are some of the best I have ever tasted. I would give this place a visit solely on the basis of those chips! The burger was also delicious, a portobello mushroom covered in breadcrumbs, filled with gooey cheese and deep fried. What more could you want? Served in a traditional burger bun with lettuce and tomato, this burger isn’t exactly a healthy choice but certainly makes for a delicious fast food treat.

I didn’t opt for any of the shakes on offer, mostly because the price tag is fairly hefty, but next time I visit I might forgo the burger and just choose one of their delicious looking shakes instead. You can even build your own if you’re feeling creative, although I’d love to try the peanut butter flavoured drink first.

I would fully recommend giving this place a go, even if you’re a mushroom phobic vegetarian like me!
