I’ve been wanting to give Grill Market a try for weeks, and recently I finally managed to visit with my friend Tammy for a break between lectures! Relatively tucked away on Theobald’s Road, Holborn, this spot offers up a really lovely interior and atmosphere with welcoming staff, delicious sandwiches and variety of salads. The inside has a lovely homely feel with potted plants on the windowsills, tin plates and buckets of cutlery on the tables. There are also a selection of cakes, brownies and biscuits (which unfortunatley I did not have time to try).
After settling ourselves on one of the little tables inside, I chose the halloumi and harissa sandwich from the chalkboard menus, with lemon and mint yoghurt (chilli jam is also available) with a carrot, orange and ginger juice. The lovely lady on the counter also put some mixed leaves and winter slaw with my sandwich for no extra cost, which made for a refreshing change from some chain cafes.
Tammy went for a mixture of salads, which are all arranged beautifully on the counter for you to choose from, naturally we decided to split our lunches and try all of them! The selection included a cannellini bean salad with sunblushed tomatoes (my favourite of the lot), bulghar wheat and quinoa with sweet potato and feta, winter slaw and kale with shaved brussel sprouts. We were particularly suprised with how much we enjoyed the kale, as neither of us have enjoyed raw kale before trying it at Grill Market. Our juices were also really fresh and lovely, definitely worth a visit. Hopefully I’ll be able to go back soon as I would love to try their range of breakfast bagels, topped with anything from cheese to avocado.
